Many people are too comfortable in today’s society. It is too easy to spend all of your free time snuggled up in bed watching Netflix or scrolling through social media, not actively using your brain or pushing yourself to step outside your comfort zone and grow. Willingly seeking discomfort can open your eyes to things you didn’t know about yourself, it can prove that you can do things you didn’t think you were capable of and help you grow as a person. If you become comfortable and familiar with discomfort then you can take on any challenge life throws at you. The Gro app and ‘Gro together’ events week aims to help and encourage people to seek discomfort, try new things and grow as a person.

This project is a retelling of Italo Calvino’s famous book Invisible Cities. The book takes you on a journey of your choosing, inviting the reader to open the book on the middle page and use that as the contents page/map for their journey to explore the many fantastical cities that Calvino describes. Each set of cities is divided into themes, Cities & memory, Cities & eyes or Cities & the dead for example. I opted to explore the deeper concepts and ideas that Calvino was communicating through his thoughts and descriptions of these cities such as the duality of life, perception, and truth.
