This collection entitled ‘Dexterity’, truly embodies my aesthetic and style when it comes to design. This collection is inspired by the 1950’s, specifically Dior’s ‘The New Look’. This period in fashion marked a new era for female attire. Dior released the revolutionary curvaceous silhouette in February 1947, and it took the fashion world by storm. The new silhouette was considered, by some, far too extravagant and full for the post-war period. However, as Carmel Snow, who was the editor-in-chief of the American edition of Harper’s Bazaar from 1934 to 1958, once said “Elegance is good taste, plus a dash of daring”. My brand, ‘Keelan Doherty’, is a luxury women’s wear brand that combines architectural construction with creative expression. My signature style is a fitted silhouette, that embraces the natural curves and shape of the female body, combined with draped and structured details that further embraces and enhances the natural female form. My brand focuses on creating unique and innovative garments, while also being mindful of my carbon footprint. I have incorporated sustainability in this collection by ensuring minimal cut-offs when cutting my pattern pieces out of my fabric, but also using pre-loved curtains and remnant fabric to create new and elevated designs.
