Often with digital technology a lot of photographers add textures and effects to their images to make them look more "analog". Then they spend a lot of time trying to degrade the 'perfection' of the digital image. I thought it was interesting how these old and degraded glass plate negatives I had found in my project research had their own creative process have their own creative result. The aim of my project is to take a similar path and use an analog process to take a digital image and physically degrade it to hopefully give a similar result as the old glass negatives. My solution, Lost Identities is the result of my process and allows the modern digital images to have a short-lived existence as a “wet negative”, which are then recaptured digitally. There are also a lot of unusual patterns and textures obscuring the digital original and I feel the images could be interpreted as representing a personal decline, loss of identity, mortality and emotions.
