The decomposition of objects and bodies over time can make many people uncomfortable and is also seen as a grim topic to be discussed. William Shakespeare’s story of Romeo and Juliet has always been my favourite work of his, so I wanted to express my interest in the story through my project. I wanted to communicate that death and decomposition should not be seen as a grim topic and should be seen as beautiful yet still slightly haunting. I aimed my project towards fine art and Shakespeare enthusiasts. The aim of my project is to exhibit a series of images that tell the story of Romeo and Juliet from Juliet’s side, which will present decay through memento mori. My solution to this aim is to use the forest to my advantage to display death and memento mori. I will also use props to aid telling the story of the star-crossed lovers.
